STEAM Education is an approach to learning that uses Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics as access points for guiding student inquiry, dialogue, and critical thinking.

STEAM is meant to encourage curiosity, ask big questions and provoke creativity in the exploration of problem-solving. This is an approach, not a scripted curriculum.

STEAM occurs throughout the day and everyone can be a part of that in every class. This is something that is woven into the fabric of our school culture. It’s just “how we do things”. Students and teachers engaged in STEAM make more real-life connections so that school is not a place where you go to learn but instead becomes the entire experience of learning itself.

Using STEAM education results in students who take thoughtful risks, engage in experiential learning, persist in problem-solving, embrace collaboration, and work through the creative process. These are the innovators, educators, leaders, and learners of the 21st century!

We participate in BEAM UCLA. Every week, UCLA students visit classes after school to perform experiments and give lessons covering various topics like biology, chemistry, or physics. Hands-on activities include bridge building, making slime, programming robots, and blasting off stomp rockets!
